Chargers' A.G. Spanos steps into his father's role

A.G. Spanos finally has his dream job.
It's the one his father held down with the San Diego Chargers for over two decades.
"This is a job that I've envisioned having since I was a little kid," A.G. Spanos, the Chargers' new president of business operations, told ESPN. "It's my dream job. I love doing what I'm doing. I feel grateful that I was able to grow up in the organization, to work here in my formative years and be around it -- I've been going to games since I can remember."
Now, he'll be tasked with the business side of the family's team. He has overseen the day-to-day business operations of the Chargers since 2011, but he'll take the reins on broader issues in his new role.
His father, Dean Spanos, will stricly oversee one of those issues -- the construction of a new team stadium.
"I'm not the spokesperson for the stadium issues, and I don't really want to add to the rhetoric out there," he said. "But absolutely growing up in San Diego I want to see the team stay there."
Stay or leave, A.G. Spanos and his younger brother John will play a bigger part in the Bolts' management. And while the last few weeks have been a blur, he'll settle into his role with a lifelong attachment to the team he loves as his guide.
"It's not exactly how you envision sometimes," said A.G. Spanos. "Our game and the challenges we face are different once you get there. It's an awesome responsibility to be a part of a team that people feel so passionately about. We have such great fans."
