The Minnesota Vikings made a couple of moves to shake up the practice squad, signing an offensive tackle to replace a defensive back.

As usual, the teams around the NFL are hamming out their final 53 man rosters and practice squads in preparation for the start of the regular season. The Minnesota Vikings are no exception to this, as they continue to try to get the most talent and best suited players for their franchise.

Two transactions were made yesterday that flew under the radar, as the Vikings released defensive back Tre Roberson from the practice squad and replaced him with offensive tackle Carter Bykowski.

After this transaction, the Minnesota Vikings still have 9 players on the practice squad, except now the names are a little different from what they were a couple of days ago. Here is the squad as it currently stands.

More from The Viking Age

Adding an offensive tackle makes a lot of sense for the Vikings. Considering how they have lost Phil Loadholt to retirement, Matt Kalil is banged up, and other backups lack experience, having another capable body to fill in if needed is a great asset.

However, that sort of depth isn’t as essential at cornerback. Even though Xavier Rhodes was limited in practice, the team still has plenty of talented players on the main roster, including Terence Newman, Trae Waynes, Captain Munnerlyn, and Mackensie Alexander.

More shakeups to the practice squad or 53 man roster will be inevitable. Whether it happens before Sunday’s regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans or later in the season, expect the franchise to make continue to put themselves in good positions no matter what happens as the season unfolds.

Best of luck to Tre Roberson, who flashed some great skills this preseason, on whatever is next for him on his NFL journey. Also, congratulation to Carter Bykowski for returning to the Minnesota Vikings. Nothing but the best is wished upon both of these men.
