Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals finalize three-year extension

The Arizona Cardinals finalized a three-year extension for starting quarterback Carson Palmer, the team announced Friday. The total value of the deal is $50 million, a source told FOX Sports 1's NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
Palmer, who has led the Cardinals to a 7-1 start this season and the NFL's best record through nine weeks, is earning $9 million in base salary in 2014.
Since missing three games earlier in the season with a dead nerve in his shoulder, Palmer has returned to the lineup, completing 76 percent of his passes and throwing for at least two touchdowns in each outing over that four-game span.
“Carson has played at an incredibly high level and has been a huge part of the team’s success,” general manager Steve Keim said in a team statement. “When you combine his on-field performance with the leadership, stability and professionalism he brings to our team, there was no question that we wanted to extend the relationship and we are excited he felt the same way.”
The Cardinals host the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
