CLEVELAND (AP) The Browns are interviewing Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and Jacksonville offensive assistant Doug Marrone for their head coaching job.

McDermott is taking a break during the team's bye before next week's playoff game to meet Thursday with the Browns, who fired Mike Pettine after two seasons.

The 41-year-old McDermott has no head coaching experience, but his defenses have finished ranked in the top 10 in each of the past four seasons. The Panthers led the league with 39 takeaways this season.

Marrone was Buffalo's coach for two seasons before opting out of his contract following 2014. He coached at Syracuse before joining the Bills.

The Browns began their coaching search Wednesday, meeting with Chicago offensive coordinator Adam Gase and Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.

Cleveland has at least four more interviews scheduled this week. The team is expected to meet with Dallas secondary coach Jerome Henderson on Friday.
