Browns and Bills schedule joint practices

Published Jun. 5, 2015 10:32 a.m. ET

The Browns will head to upstate New York a few days before their Aug. 20 preseason matchup with Buffalo to hold two days of joint practice with the Bills.

The practices will be held on Monday and Tuesday leading up to the Thursday night game at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Mike Pettine, who served as Buffalo's defensive coordinator before becoming the Browns head coach, said in a statement that a joint practice is something he's always wanted to do.

"I think it raises the level of competition," Pettine said per The News-Herald. "Your guys after a while get tired of going against each other at training camp. You don’t get a good sense of where you are. I just think it ratchets up the competitive juices and I think you get a little more out of it, so we are very much looking forward to it."

Pettine served as defensive coordinator for new Bills coach Rex Ryan when both were with the New York Jets.
