Broncos kicker McManus: 'As a fan, I'd probably go for two'

Some argue the NFL's new rule on point-after attempts wasn't strong enough

As a man who plays the position, Brandon McManus hopes kickers won't be removed from the game. But as a pure football fan, the Broncos' specialist sees the allure in the two-point play.

“As a fan, I’d probably go for two," the Philadelphia native told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Thursday.

The rule change could cause a paradigm shift in the opposite direction, though. Kickers who can consistently hit longer point-after attempts and still sport a good field goal percentage could be in line for a league-wide pay raise.

“Sooner or later the teams -- if a good kicker performs well with all these new extra points -- they’re going to have to pay us more, so that’s a good thing," McManus said. "But, it is gonna create a little more controversy."

The NFL said it will revisit their revisions next offseason. If controversy breeds kicker contempt throughout 2015, McManus and his kicker fraternity could be in line for a lesser role.
