Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak taken to hospital following Week 5 loss

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak was taken to the hospital after suffering flu-like symptoms after Week 5’s loss.

It was a bad day for the Denver Broncos, but things got very real following Week 5’s loss. While the Broncos lost their first game of the season to the Atlanta Falcons, something much worse happened after the game. According to CBS Denver, Kubiak was taken to the hospital following the Broncos loss to the Falcons. The reason given was ‘flu-like symptoms’ being suffered by the coach.

This calls back to intense memories of Kubiak suffering a mini-stroke in his final year coaching he Houston Texans. Kubiak had to step back from his duties as head coach and ultimately was let go at the end of the season. Obviously, this is much different, but it still makes you think about how football is just a game.

It’s not clear if this is a ramification of that health issue, but it still isn’t a good thing. Kubiak’s status is still unknown but it sounds like he’s expected to recover. Hopefully this is just a minor issue, and Kubiak is back next week for the Broncos. If he’s not, then Denver will have to reconsider how long he needs to step away from the team to make sure he gets healthy.

Denver is 4-1 to start the season, and Kubiak was given a ton of credit for leading the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory last year. Should he need to step away, it’s believed that Wade Phillips will take over coaching duties for the team in his absence. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that but this is another harrowing reminder that sometimes the football played on the field isn’t the most important thing in life.
