Bowles lets Jets wear sweats on plane after beating Colts

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles honored his pregame promise and allowed players to go super casual as it relates to the expected dress code for the team flight back home after a 20-7 dismantling of the Indianapolis Colts on “Monday Night Football.”

“Sweats on the plane,” Bowles said during a postgame locker room speech, eliciting hoots and hollers from the players.

NFL teams typically prefer players to be dressed to the nines during travel, so the fact the rookie Jets coach relaxed the rules and allowed players to rock sweatpants or other assorted casual wear certainly will raise morale for a team already flying high courtesy of a 2-0 start.

Most players gladly seized the opportunity to sport comfortable attire, including quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who donned a t-shirt and shorts and stuffed his folded-up suit in a bag. Darrelle Revis and Brandon Marshall, though, opted to wear their suits.

Bowles obviously has the Jets running and gunning on all cylinders, but he made it clear after the game he isn’t satisfied,

“It’s a good win, but it’s only win No. 2,” he said.

It’s unclear if Bowles intends to adopt the “Sweats on the plane” practice for the entire season. But with the Jets hosting the struggling Philadelphia Eagles at home next Sunday, the next chance will come when the team heads to London for a showdown with the Miami Dolphins in Week 4. Not that Jets players won’t want to win for far better reasons, imagine how nice it would be for them if they could rock sweats on the lengthy flight back across the pond.
