Boras settling in as OC of Rams after stomach-churning start

Firing offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti 12 games into the season appeared to be a grasping-at-straws move by the St. Louis Rams.

Yet, after watching his team register a pair of wins in a five-day span and post their highest two-game point total of the season, Rams coach Jeff Fisher is more than comfortable with his decison - which also coincided with the switch to Case Keenum at quarterback.

“I made the change for that reason — because I anticipated that,” Fisher said of the pairing of Boras and Keenum, per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “They work well together. (Quarterbacks) Coach (Chris) Weinke had a lot to do with this, too.”

No one is ready to stamp St. Louis as an offensive juggernaut yet, but after averaging a paltry 10.8 points during a five-game losing streak, the jump in production to 52 points in the past two contests makes it feel like the days of the "Greatest Show on Turf."

“Right now he’s got the juice, man,” Rams defensive end William Hayes said. “I’m out there and I’m looking at the product and the plays he’s calling. He’s got the guys believing. And they’re playing. He’s calling a solid game right now."

Boras had a bit too much juice in his first game after replacing CIgnetti. He said he vomited a number of times during St. Louis' 21-14 win over Detroit in Week 14. That earned him a bucket to go along with a game ball from Fisher.

“Other than maybe the birth of our first child, that might have been the most nervous I’ve ever been,” said Boras, who last served as an offensive coordinator at Nevada-Las Vegas in 2003.

Fisher said Boras was "much more at ease" in a 31-23 win over Tampa Bay that marked the team's second-highest point. The Rams scored 34 points in a season-opening win over the Seahawks, which will be out for revenge in Sunday's rematch in Seattle.

The Seahawks are riding a five-game winning streak and have permitted 26 points in their last three games, so Boras might want to pack his bucket for the trip.
