Attorney for Titans' Hill calls allegation false

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The attorney for Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Sammie Hill says a woman's allegation he sexually assaulted her is false and an attempt at extortion.

Attorney Ed Garland issued a statement Wednesday night saying Hill had consensual sex and is cooperating with an investigation by the Atlanta Police Department. Garland said he is doing his own investigation.

''This is a false accusation, and we will make a determination whether to seek to have a warrant issued against the complainant for criminal extortion,'' Garland wrote in an email. ''This accusation is just the latest example of the frequent practice of scurrilous, false charges being made against athletes and celebrities.''

Atlanta police confirmed Monday they were investigating a woman's report that Hill sexually assaulted her after first contacting Houston police on Dec. 5. Atlanta police have released no other information, and The Associated Press does not identify possible victims of sexual crimes.

Garland said he did not know if the woman has an attorney yet.

The 28-year-old Hill is single and played at Stillman. The native of West Blocton, Alabama, is a six-year veteran in the second year of a three-year deal with Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 328-pound Hill has started 12 games this season and has 34 tackles with two sacks and seven quarterback pressures.

Hill referred all questions to his Atlanta attorney when he spoke to reporters Wednesday in the Titans' locker room.
