Amaro leaves practice early due to injury

Published Jun. 3, 2015 10:55 p.m. ET

2014 second round pick Jace Amaro enters his second season in the NFL and hopes to become a valuable piece of the passing game along with wide receivers Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Devin Smith.

However, on Wednesday, Amaro left the team's OTA session with a back injury. The severity of the injury remains unknown.

The injury appeared ti happen while Amaro was running a route and before he finished the route, he stopped short wincing in pain. He met with the trainers on the sideline before being shut down for the rest of the day.

Head coach Todd Bowles didn't have much to add to Amaro's status.

"I don't know much right now," Bowles said. "They told me he was sore."

The Jets can ill-afford a significant injury to Amaro as Jeff Cumberland would be the only other tight end to get significant playing time in 2014.
