49ers OC Chryst fires back at Browns' Pettine: 'He's shining his star'

San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Geep Chryst took less than 24 hours to fire back at criticism from Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine.

Responding to disparaging comments from Pettine on Wednesday that questioned the 49ers' effort level in Sunday's 24-10 loss at Cleveland, Chryst on Thursday dismissed Pettine's words as self-serving.

“Well, he’s shining his star, saying that, ‘Even though we lost seven in a row, look how we showed up. We’re a team that fights and does not quit,’ ” Chryst told reporters Thursday.

Pettine contrasted the approach between his team and San Francisco in his media briefing Wednesday, noting how they were in “very similar situations" heading into a matchup completely dominated by the Browns.

“I thought you saw one team that wanted to be out there and wanted to compete and wanted to win a football game, and I don't know if I sensed that same attitude from the other side,” Pettine said.
