49ers' Edwards fined $50K for DWI

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Braylon Edwards was Tuesday fined $50,000 -- but not suspended -- for violating the league's substance abuse policy relating to a DWI incident from last year, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Edwards, who was a member of the New York Jets when the incident occurred last September, pleaded guilty in July to the misdemeanor charge and had been waiting to hear whether he would face a possible one- or two-game suspension.

At the time of his DWI arrest, the 28-year-old was on inactive probation in Cleveland -- stemming from a fight outside a nightclub with a friend of LeBron James -- but avoided jail time in a probation violation hearing.

The DWI arrest came after police initially stopped his vehicle for having excessively tinted windows.
