Truth be told: If Clippers win title, Paul Pierce will 'probably be done' with NBA
When Paul Pierce signed a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason, many NBA observers did a double-take. Not because of Pierce's choice in team, mind you, but because of the length of the contract. There were rumors this summer that Pierce was considering retirement; to sign a three-year deal seemed like quite a commitment for the soon-to-be 38-year-old.
But by his own admission, Pierce might not play out the length of the contract. At the Clippers' media day on Friday, he allowed that if the team wins the title this year, he'll likely retire:
Pierce added that he felt that he has a couple of seasons remaining at a high level. And it's really the best of both worlds for The Truth. If he wants to keep playing, he has the security of the three-year contract. But if he wants to hang it up early, that's his decision to make. There's no pressure, which could be a detriment — when pressure's at its highest, Pierce is at his best.
