The Warriors hold off depleted Jazz

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Golden State Warriors won their second game of a back-to-back after defeating the depleted Utah Jazz on Steph Curry’s 26 points.

It looked like it was going to be a runaway win for Golden State. At one point, the Warriors went on a 29-1 run in the opening quarter. But the Jazz battled back and cut it to single digits in the fourth quarter and put pressure on the Dubs.

The Warriors came out of the gate firing. Steph Curry was hitting from everywhere and Dubs got off to a huge lead. They won the first quarter 35-17 and the Warriors seemed to be on their way to another easy victory.

Draymond Geen had it going early as well, knocking down 4/5 from beyond the arc. He also hauled in 8 rebounds. Pat McCaw got in on the action, putting up 10 points in the half.

Joe ingles salvaged the first quarter for Utah, knocking down a few threes. His hot streak didn’t last long, but it was enough to keep his team from falling way too far behind. He would also step up in the second half, finishing with a team-high 21 points.

The Jazz have dealt with injuries all year and were without a lot of key players including Gordon Hayward and George Hill. The Warriors rested Shaun Livingston after defeating the Clippers last night. Golden State should not have struggled with Utah.

Quin Snyder had his team ready to compete. They continued to battle even when Golden State pushed the lead to 25. They eventually brought it back down to 8 points as they put pressure on the Dubs.

The Warriors had a scary moment in the third quarter when Green went down with a left ankle injury. Curry was moving his feet defensively and landed on his All-Star teammate as he came down after defending a pass. Green limped to the locker room, but came back into the game in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Durant struggled early on, but he and Green got it done down the stretch. Durant got himself to the line and to the rim throwing down a pair of huge dunks in the fourth quarter. He finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors can’t be too pleased with how this game played out. They’ll be happy to come away with a win, but it was closer than it should have been against a team missing nearly all of its key rotation players. One of their biggest problems this year has been holding onto big leads and, once again, they let one slip away.

Golden State will fly to Memphis and take the Grizzlies on this Saturday.
