Stoudemire more than ready to test free agency

The Dallas Mavericks signed Amar'e Stoudemire one day before the trade deadline with the hope of fortifying their frontcourt's depth. For the most part, it worked.

The 32-year-old averaged 10.8 points per game and shot 58.1 percent from the field. His solid play created a decent-sized market for the unrestricted free agent, whose ability to score can outweigh his defensive weaknesses in a limited role.

Here's what Stoudemire had to say about his approach to the offseason, per Mavs.com:

“There was a lot at stake this season. I’m sure there’s going to be another round of free agency happening again, as it was in 2010. I’ll make my rounds and see what teams are saying, but I think Dallas is a place where I feel comfortable here. I have a chance to have great success here with this franchise. We’ll see.”

Stoudemire's prime motivation appears to be winning a championship, and right now the Mavericks don't appear ready to do so. Don't be shocked if he eventually signs on with a more well-rounded contender.
