Should Philly trade for Anthony Bennett?
The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly placed former first overall pick Anthony Bennett on the trade market. The move isn't all that surprising, considering Bennett's colossal struggles over the past couple seasons.
But should the Philadelphia 76ers make a play for him, or is Bennett damaged goods? Here's SB Nation's Liberty Ballers blog with more on the situation:
"The Sixers have had interest in Bennett previously. Per CSN's Dei Lynam, the blockbuster trade that sent Jrue Holiday to the Pelicans still could've gone down even if Nerlens Noel wasn't on the board for New Orleans, as Hinkie had the same deal in place with the Pellies if either Victor Oladipo or Bennett himself were available with the sixth pick in the 2013 draft."
Bennett is due $5.8 million next season, and has a $7.3 million team option on his contract the following year. So any trade for him could be just a one-year deal if things go south.
Is taking the gamble worth it for a rebuilding team like Philly? Perhaps. Bennett is still only 22 years old and has pretty good size and strength. There's a reason he was selected first overall, even if that pick was a surprise at the time. Philadelphia has a ton of cap space to blow, and if any team is willing to make this deal it's them.
