Report: Rajon Rondo planned to sign with Lakers in the summer

Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo may be wearing out his welcome in Big D.

Rondo played just 10 minutes in a critical Game 2 loss against the Houston Rockets, picking up a technical foul before being benched the rest of the game.

Rondo, who was acquired in a trade by the Mavericks this season, will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. According Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, however, the mercurial point guard may have a hard time landing a max deal, even with the Los Angeles Lakers:

"When Rondo realized his run with the Celtics was over this year, he planned to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer, league sources told Yahoo Sports. He expected a maximum contract. Once Dallas made the trade, he was open to re-signing with the Mavericks – only there are no max contract offers for Rondo on the market. Not in Dallas, nor Los Angeles. He's played his way out of that payday – not just this year, but since that terrible ACL injury two years ago."
