Report: Jim Buss personally endorsed Byron Scott during Tom Thibodeau rumors
It's always a good thing when your boss has your back. And if your boss' boss supports you? Then that's just gravy. Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott reportedly has that kind of job security right now despite rampant rumors that the Lakers were be interested in giving the coaching position to former Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau.
Those rumors were shot down by Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, but part-owner Jim Buss took things a step further and personally endorsed Scott, according to the LA Times' Bill Plaschke:
"Mitch Kupchak [Scott] him a voice mail message confirming the report was just an unsubstantiated rumor and the Lakers were 'incredibly happy' with their guy. Jim Buss then called and endorsed Scott personally."
That's all well and good, especially for Scott. Continuity is important in the NBA, and too many coaching changes can really kill the development of a team's young prospects. But is anyone else really curious what Kobe Bryant thinks about all this? Anyone?
