Randy Wittman doesn't want Paul Pierce 'making an emotional decision'

If NBA fans are lucky, we haven't seen the last of Paul Pierce. He's not sure if he'll be back next season, and that's understandable. The Washington Wizards lost in brutal fashion to the Atlanta Hawks this postseason. But John Wall will be back and healthy next season, and the Wizards discovered gold with Pierce at center. If The Truth comes back -- and if he's in Washington once again -- there's a lot to be excited about.

But that's down the road, according to Wizards coach Randy Wittman, who told CBS DC's The Sports Junkies that he wants Pierce to get away from it all before he decides what to do next:

“We’re gonna sit down here in the next couple days,” Wittman said. “I want him to get away, get with his family, get away from the game a little bit, first. You know, it’s such an emotional game, it’s such an emotional ending. So you’re going seven days a week for eight straight months and then all of a sudden it stops, and you’re done.”

“And so I don’t want him making an emotional decision,” he added. “I told him to take his time.”

It's a healthy sense of perspective from Wittman, and it's pragmatic, too. If Pierce is hurting as much as it seems he is after the way this season ended, a little bit of rest and recuperation certainly can't hurt in bringing him back to the NBA next season.
