One study rates Tyson Chandler among most impactful newcomers
Until the dust settles, it's hard to judge properly the Phoenix Suns' 2015 offseason. But one thing is for sure -- in adding Tyson Chandler, the Suns got the impact center on both ends of the floor that the team has been sorely lacking.
In fact, Chandler's potential impact might have been understated to this point, as his advanced age and recent health problems give NBA observers reason to hedge on next season. But according to ESPN.com's Kevin Pelton and his statistical projections, Chandler rates just behind LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Monroe as the new addition to a team that will have the biggest impact.
Pelton writes, "Chandler's age -- he'll turn 33 in October -- limits his long-term value compared to other players who changed teams. But barring a recurrence of the health problems that plagued him with the New York Knicks, Chandler should still be a top newcomer next season. After all, he posted the best PER of his career (20.1)."
Chandler averaged 30.5 minutes per game last season, which is slightly down from his first two seasons with the Knicks. Relative to his championship-winning days with the Mavericks, however, that's actually been an increased workload. And with Phoenix's commitment to player health, Chandler's health will hopefully be a non-issue for the Suns.
