Nets reach buyout agreement with Deron Williams

Early Friday morning, ESPN’s Marc Stein reported that the Brooklyn Nets were working on a buyout agreement with guard Deron Williams.

Williams, who has struggled a great deal since coming over from the Utah Jazz during the 2010-11 campaign, reportedly wants to join his home-town Dallas Mavericks.

NBA.com’s David Aldridge is now indicating that the two sides have come to terms on a buyout agreement that enables Williams to sign with Dallas should he clear waivers. Considering the veteran guard would cost any team picking him up off waivers a total of $43.3 million over the next two years, he’s going to clear waivers without an issue.

Yahoo Sports NBA insider Marc Spears confirmed the news, also noting that Williams is expected to sign with Dallas when he clears waivers.

This all comes on the heels of reports earlier Friday that Williams had some major issues with the Nets coaching staff this past season. In fact, one situation with head coach Lionel Hollins tells us a story of just how bad the relationship was. Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily Newsreported:

With Rajon Rondo now on the Sacramento Kings, the Mavericks need to find themselves a starter-caliber point guard to team up with the recently-signed Wes Matthews in the team’s backcourt.

It remains to be seen whether Williams will be the answer. The 31-year-old five-time All-Star averaged just 13.0 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting less than 40 percent from the field this past season.
