ECONOMY FACTOR?: The recession affected the NBA like any other league or industry. Some owners and coaches believe the tougher financial climate could result in teams carrying fewer players as a way to cut costs.

CUTTING DOWN: A survey of all 30 teams by The Associated Press found that nearly half the league plans to carry the maximum 15 players come opening day. Those that plan to carry 13 or 14 said they were driven by flexibility, but team officials acknowledge the bottom line plays a role.
