Jonathan Holmes is fitting in with the Celtics
The Boston Celtics signed Jonathan Holmes to their summer league team after no team picked him in last month's draft. That decision could turn into a smart one.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens is impressed with what he's seen, particularly with Holmes' outside shot (he's made four of six attempts so far in Las Vegas). Here's what he told the Boston Herald:
“He’s got a really good chance, a good player. He stretches the floor as a 4, he’s got a little post game, he’s better rebounding the ball than even I knew when he got here, he can get offensive rebounds, he can get defensive rebounds, he’s strong, he can guard bigger, he’s got a really good chance.”
It will be difficult for Holmes to latch on with Boston, considering they already have David Lee, Amir Johnson, Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk all fighting for minutes. But it wouldn't hurt to give him a non-guaranteed contract and a spot on the roster anyway.
Guys with size who can shoot don't grow on trees. When you find one, don't let him go.
