Is Marco Belinelli too expensive for San Antonio's blood?
Marco Belinelli was an underrated contributor for the San Antonio Spurs when they won the championship in 2013-14, but last year his production took a noticeable dip. Now, as a 29-year-old backup wing who's about to enter free agency, there's a chance Belinelli may be too expensive for San Antonio's blood.
Here, SB Nation's Spurs blog Pounding the Rock takes a long look at what the Italian forward could earn on the open market, what that means for the odds he stays in San Antonio and which available players can come in and fill the void, should Belinelli leave:
"First name that immediately pops up is Mike Dunleavy. Made only $3 mil last year, probably not gonna get much of a bump at his age. Casspi isn't a shooter, but he's an intriguing guy. If Delfino was ever healthy, he'd probably be someone the Spurs would be curious about."
Belinelli made $2.8 million this year, and at his age he'll ask for a raise. He can shoot, play more than one position and create a little action off the dribble. All this is nice, and Belinelli is a quality player, but San Antonio should be able to replace him in a pinch.
