Grizzlies work out Kentucky alum Dakari Johnson

The Memphis Grizzlies, oddly enough, might need help in their front court soon.

The team known for their booming men down low may soon lose one. It's likely that franchise player Marc Gasol will be re-signed in free agency, but the maximum money they give him could mean not having enough left over for another player. Kostas Koufos, one of the best big reserves in the league last year, is also a free agent after a stellar season.

Enter Dakari Johnson. The 6'11" Kentucky alum is certainly less known than a number of other Wildcats expected to go ahead of him in the draft. But the Grizzlies worked him out this week, according to general manager Chris Wallace, and liked that they saw.

"Dakari is a real student of the game," Wallace said recently. "And as conscientious a young man as I've ever encountered in a workout setting. We took him out to eat last night. He's locked in to both myself and Ed Stefanski. He understands this is a long journey for success in the NBA."

If the Grizzlies grab Johnson at No. 25 overall, it could signal that they're letting Koufos walk for a bigger paycheck.
