Grizzlies need answers from the perimeter
If the Memphis Grizzlies lose tonight in Game 6 against the Golden State Warriors, their season will end. Obviously, they don't think it will.
But in order to pull off a third upset in six games, Memphis must get solid play from its wing scorers, namely Jeff Green, Vince Carter and Courtney Lee. According to Zach Randolph and head coach Dave Joerger, here are the reasons why:
Randolph: “We’ve got to just figure it out. When I get the ball, they’re running two and three [defenders] at me. So we’ve just got to be ready and be better than that. The guys on the perimeter have to be aggressive and just continue to play.”
Joerger: "You've got to open up the floor, knock in shots from the perimeter and make them wonder a little bit when they come to double-team from the back side. We've got to get our spacing correct when guys are supposed to cut and guys are supposed to be available on the perimeter. And we've got to step up and knock some shots down.”
The Grizzlies are built to attack from the inside, but it's no use if there isn't a threat supplementing that strength from behind the three-point line. If Memphis' shots fall in Game 6, Randolph and Gasol will get the breathing room they need late in fourth quarter, and we just may see the most unlikely Game 7 yet.
