Davis finishes sixth for Most Improved Player
Anthony Davis launched himself from a second-year All-Star to a third-year MVP candidate, and the voters who decide which players are deserving of the NBA's Most Improved Player award definitely noticed.
Davis finished sixth for the award, which was announced late last week. Here's The Times-Picayune's John Reid with more:
"New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis was sixth, finishing with 27 total points. Davis, who was fifth for the NBA's MVP award, received four first-place votes, two second-place votes and one third-place vote."
Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler won the award, but Davis saw his stats take a noticeable rise. He averaged 3.6 more points per game and his PER went from 26.5 to a league-leading 30.8. Davis was more efficient even as his responsibilities grew, but clearly winning this award isn't a top priority.
Davis has MVPs and championships on his mind. And there's no reason to think the 22-year-old won't grab a whole bunch of them before his must-see-TV career is all said and done.
