Could Dallas steal Cory Joseph from San Antonio?

The Dallas Mavericks are in desperate need of a starting point guard. Since this summer's trade market isn't very promising, they can either draft one with their first-round pick or sign a free agent.

In free agency there are a few intriguing candidates, but perhaps the most overlooked one is San Antonio Spurs backup point guard Cory Joseph. Here's SB Nation's Mavericks blog Mavs Moneyball with more:

"Joseph has shown the potential to make the same kind of leap many underused role players have made with the Mavs. The former Texas Longhorn has improved in each of his four years as an understudy to All-Star Tony Parker. His numbers remained modest in 2014-15, but per 36 minutes, he averaged 13 points and nearly 5 rebounds and 5 assists. More importantly, his shooting percentages from the three point line and inside the arc have steadily crept up."

Joseph is solid on both ends of the floor, has championship experience and will only be 24 years old next season. He'll likely also come with a less expensive price tag than almost every other legitimate point guard on the market.

Making Joseph a full-time starter for a team that wants to win wouldn't come without risk, but overall it feels like a smart investment.
