Cleveland Cavaliers to host mega-playmaker workout for LeBron James
LeBron James wants more playmakers for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Are some real reinforcements on the way?
The Cleveland Cavaliers have lost seven of their past 12 games, and LeBron James has gone back to his old habit of throwing shade at management whenever things go even the tiniest bit south.
Apparently, LeBron needs more playmakers on the Cavaliers, and management is doing whatever it takes to acquiesce to GM James. To that end, Mario Chalmers, Kirk Hinrich, and Lance Stephenson are all heading up to Cleveland for a blockbuster free agent workout on Wednesday.

Wow, that’s all I have to say, and I’m sure King James feels the same way.
Hinrich and Chalmers have not played a minute in the NBA this season. Stephenson played in six games with the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this year before being released after an injury. Before being waived, Stephenson had chipped in 9.7 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game. Chalmers appeared in 61 games for the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies last year, averaging 10.3 points per game in just over 22 minutes. Hinrich saw action in 46 games for the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks, scoring 3.0 points per game while assisting on 1.6 buckets per game. He is 36 years old.
Outside of the Big Three of James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love, the Cavaliers do lack scoring options off the bench. The loss of J.R. Smith to a hand injury took away a key outside-shooting option for Cleveland that has not fully been replaced. Kyle Korver was acquired from the Hawks, but his 3-point shooting has fallen off significantly over the past two years, and he is also fairly limited in his ability to create his own shot.
Stephenson is easily the most interesting name of the bunch for the Cavaliers to consider given his history of trash talking with LeBron. Stephenson’s own antics have gotten in the way of his overall potential as a player with an ability to do a little bit of everything on the court. With James helping to rein him in, perhaps Stephenson could experience a mid-career revival similar to Metta World Peace in Los Angeles. Either way, LeBron is about to find out that with three big stars on a roster, the available “playmaker” options on the open market are scraping the bottom of the barrel.
