Can Rashad Vaughn help the Spurs?
The University of Nevada Las Vegas' Rashad Vaughn can really shoot. Before tearing his meniscus last season, the 6'5" guard was lights out, spacing the floor and creating nightmares for opposing defenses.
He's exactly the type of player the San Antonio Spurs could use, and taking him with the 26th overall pick in this year's draft may turn out to be a blessing. Here's more on Vaughn, from San Antonio Express-News reporter Jeff McDonald:
"In 23 games at UNLV before hurting his knee, Vaughn averaged 17.3 points and shot 38.3 percent from college 3-point distance, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors. Able to score off the dribble or coming off screens, Vaughn could eventually be groomed as a role filler a la Danny Green, the sharpshooting Spurs guard who is entering free agency this offseason."
It's possible Vaughn eventually replaces Green, should San Antonio's current starting shooting guard leave as a free agent. But in the long-term he could also fill the void left by Manu Ginobili.
So long as he can make plays off the dribble, knock down open shots, move the ball and play quality defense, Vaughn is a perfect fit.
