Bobby Portis hasn't played, but Hoiberg 'confident' in giving him minutes

Bulls rookie Bobby Portis has yet to play during his first two NBA games, but head coach Fred Hoiberg said it's only a matter of time before he eventually gets his shot.
Portis is the only change to the Chicago roster from a season ago, and as the year goes on and Hoiberg tinkers with his rotations, you can expect that Portis will get the chance to earn himself a regular spot in the rotation.
"We're absolutely confident with Bobby giving us minutes," Hoiberg said. "There are going to be times over the course of the year when he plays even with all our bigs healthy."
Hoiberg said he talked with Portis on Monday, basically telling him to stay ready. Portis averaged a double-double during the preseason.
"He handled everything like a pro, and he's going to continue to work hard," Hoiberg said. "He understands the situation. And he's learning from some great veterans. Joakim has really taken him under his wing."
Portis said he appreciated Hoiberg's communication.
"Young players have to work their way in," Portis said.MORE NEWS: Want stories delivered to you? Sign up for our NBA newsletters.
