The struggling Phillies have placed Laynce Nix on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf and called up three players from the minors.

A reserve first baseman and outfielder, Nix is batting .326 with two homers and 11 RBIs.

Philadelphia called up relievers Jake Diekman and Raul Valdes, and infielder Hector Luna from Triple-A Lehigh Valley before Friday night's game against the San Diego Padres. The team sent relievers Brian Sanches and Joe Savery to its top farm club.

The 25-year-old Diekman was 1-0 with five saves and a 0.59 ERA in 13 games at Triple-A, striking out 22 and walking three in 15 1-3 innings.
