Marlins claim Dyson off waivers

The Miami Marlins claimed right-hander Sam Dyson off waivers from Toronto on Wednesday, clearing that roster spot by designating outfielder Kevin Mattison for assignment.

Dyson made two appearances for the Blue Jays last July, giving up four hits and allowing three runs while recording only two outs. The Blue Jays designated him last week to make room to sign Mark DeRosa.

Mattison went hitless in five at-bats with the Marlins last season.

The Marlins announced earlier this week that 31 non-roster players have been asked to spring training, including Chad Qualls, a right-handed reliever who made 52 appearances last season for Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and the New York Yankees.
