Bradley Jr. to make Red Sox roster

Boston Red Sox spring sensation Jackie Bradley Jr. is expected to make the team’s Opening Day roster.

Bradley is traveling to New York, where the Red Sox are scheduled to begin the regular season Monday against the archrival Yankees. The team plans to formally add him to its active roster prior to the season opener, major league sources confirmed.

The Red Sox have until 3 p.m. ET Sunday to clear a spot for Bradley on the 40-man roster, thus allowing him to be on the 25-man active roster.

Bradley, a 22-year-old outfielder, has not played a regular-season game above Double-A. But he’s been one of the most impressive players in any major league camp this spring and is likely to be (at least temporarily) Boston’s regular left fielder against right-handed pitching.

Bradley, a left-handed batter, batted .433 with two home runs and 12 RBI for the Red Sox in Grapefruit League play. He’s known for his outstanding plate discipline, having walked nearly as many times as he struck out in the minor leagues last year.
