Bob Uecker undergoes heart operation
Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker had heart surgery Tuesday that repaired a tear from a previous valve replacement.
The same team of doctors that performed the initial surgery on the 75-year-old Uecker last April also did this six-hour procedure. Doctors said the operation was successful.
''Our family is thankful today's surgery went as expected,'' son Bob Uecker Jr. said in a statement. ''We again thank all of those who continue to provide support through expressions of concern and well wishes.''
Doctors believe the recent tear is due to a staph infection. They say Uecker will stay in the hospital for about a week and need at least eight weeks to recover.
Uecker returned to the booth in July after his first surgery in April. He finished his 40th season broadcasting Brewers games this year.
''We are relieved to know that Bob's latest surgery went as planned, and we look forward to his complete and speedy recovery,'' Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio said. ''We look forward to having Bob back at spring training in a little more than four months from now.''
