John Calipari says all eligible Kentucky players will declare for NBA
Is John Calipari about to lose pretty much his whole Kentucky team to the NBA? No, but they will all declare themselves eligible for the NBA Draft anyway.
The NCAA's new rules allow players to submit their name up to three times for the draft and to pull it back without repercussions up to 10 days after the NBA combine.
So Calipari, in a series of tweets reflecting on the season's end, has announced that every single Kentucky player who is eligible will declare for the draft -- even walk-ons. He calls it a "true win-win for the student-athlete."
Makes sense, really. These kids get to see how they stack up against their peers, get feedback from NBA types and then get to return to school risk-free ... even if they aren't considered NBA prospects at the moment. And for Calipari, it gives him another chance to dangle that NBA carrot in front of his players and remind them why they signed with Kentucky in the first place.
