Conor Garland - Ready for Opening Night Garland (undisclosed) expects to play Wednesday versus Calgary, Dan Murphy of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Garland sat out Friday's preseason finale, but the injury won't linger into the start of the year. In 82 games during the 2023-24 regular season, he recorded 20 goals, 47 points and 200 shots on net. Garland will occupy a middle-six role in this campaign while seeing time on the second power-play unit.

Dakota Joshua - Traveling with team Joshua (groin) will join the Canucks on their upcoming four-game road trip and could start skating during that time, Farhan Lalji of TSN reports Tuesday.
Impact While Joshua's return to the ice will certainly be a significant step in the right direction, he will likely have several more hurdles to clear, including absorbing contact in practice. Once the winger is ready to play, he should be in contention for a second-line role, though Daniel Sprong and Conor Garland will likely also have something to say about that.

Mark Friedman - Waived Tuesday Friedman was placed on waivers by Vancouver on Tuesday.
Impact Friedman will be reassigned to AHL Abbotsford assuming he clears waivers. Even if the blueliner was kept on the roster, it would likely be as the seventh or eighth defenseman with the veteran serving primarily as a healthy scratch. If there is an injury in the future, Friedman should be atop the list of potential call-ups, though he shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value even at the NHL level.

Arshdeep Bains - Sent to AHL Bains was loaned to AHL Abbotsford on Monday.
Impact Bains produced 16 goals and 55 points in 59 contests for Vancouver's top minor-league affiliate during the 2023-24 regular season. He will probably see NHL action at some point this campaign but could spend most of 2024-25 in the minors.

Dakota Joshua - Placed on injured non-roster Joshua (testicular cancer) was placed on the injured non-roster list Monday.
Impact Joshua recently resumed skating, but he's still considered to be several weeks away from returning to game action. He underwent surgery for testicular cancer in September and will officially be forced to miss the first few weeks of the regular season. He made 63 appearances for the Canucks last year and logged 18 goals, 32 points and 245 hits while averaging 14:23 of ice time.

Thatcher Demko - Placed on non-roster list Demko (knee) will begin the 2024-25 season on Vancouver's non-roster, injured reserve list, the team announced Monday.
Impact Demko's status shouldn't come as a surprise considering the team has repeatedly said he doesn't have a clear timeline to return. At this point, fantasy players should probably consider the backstop as week-to-week, though it could certainly be longer. It will fall to Arturs Silovs and Kevin Lankinen to pick up the slack in Demko's stead.

Jiri Patera - Picked up by former club Patera was re-claimed off waivers by Vancouver on Monday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports.
Impact Patera's stint in Boston lasted less than a week after he was claimed by the Bruins, presumably, to bolster the goalie room in the absence of Jeremy Swayman. With Swayman finally signed, Patera's services were no longer needed, allowing the Canucks to bring the netminder back into the fold. Since they originally waived Patera for the purpose of sending him down to the minors, he will now be headed to AHL Abbotsford for the start of the 2024-25 season.

Impact Hoglander has carved out a role in Vancouver over his first four seasons in the NHL, and he'll be rewarded with a contract extension after a career-best year during the 2023-24 campaign.
