Erik Brannstrom - Acquired in trade Vancouver acquired Brannstrom from Colorado on Sunday in exchange for Tucker Poolman (head) and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Impact Brannstrom signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Avalanche in July after Ottawa declined to issue him a qualifying offer. The 25-year-old defender had three goals, 20 points, 77 shots on net and 111 blocked shots in 76 games with the Senators in the 2023-24 regular season. Brannstrom could be a depth defender for the Canucks this campaign.

Impact Pettersson helped out on a Carson Soucy tally in the first period as well as Jake DeBrusk's empty-netter in the third. Entering 2024-25, Pettersson is expected to be a major contributor for the Canucks. His 2023-24 was a tale of two halves -- he produced 64 points in 49 games before the All-Star break, then stumbled to the finish line with just 31 points over 46 games between the regular season and playoffs after the schedule resumed. Fantasy managers plopping down a second-round pick for the 25-year-old will hope that he is consistently closer to his first-half performance in 2024-25, especially after he flashed 100-point potential in 2022-23.

Carson Soucy - Lights lamp Friday Soucy scored a goal on three shots, added three hits and blocked two shots in Friday's 4-1 preseason win over the Oilers.
Impact This was a good example of Soucy at his best. He got involved in the offense, with his tally being the game-winning goal, but he also chipped in with physicality as he often does. The 30-year-old is likely to be paired with Tyler Myers to begin 2024-25. Last season, Soucy was limited to six points in 40 games while adding 65 hits and 64 blocked shots in a similar second-pairing role.

Quinn Hughes - Deposits goal Hughes scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Friday's 4-1 preseason win over the Oilers.
Impact Hughes opened the scoring at 10:11 of the first period. The reigning Norris Trophy winner put up three points over two preseason contests, not that he needs to do much to prove himself now. At 24 years old, Hughes is one of the top defensemen in the league, though even he may have trouble replicating the 17-goal, 92-point campaign he produced in 82 regular-season outings in 2023-24. Still, Hughes should be a threat for a point-per-game pace and significant power-play production even if he takes a small step back.

Impact Bains got a rare look on the second power-play unit during the Canucks' preseason finale, and he was able to cash in. He was limited to 12:17 of ice time Friday, but he made the most of it in an effort to earn a spot on the Opening Night roster. The 23-year-old had no points, seven hits, six PIM, four shots on goal and a minus-5 rating over eight NHL appearances last season, so it's unlikely he sees much more than a bottom-six assignment.

Jake DeBrusk - Goal, assist in win DeBrusk scored a goal on three shots, added an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's 4-1 preseason win over the Oilers.
Impact DeBrusk's goal was an empty-netter, and he also helped out on a Carson Soucy tally in the first period. DeBrusk has earned three goals and an assist over three preseason contests. The winger is poised to fill a top-six role consistently in 2024-25 after signing a seven-year contract with the Canucks in free agency. He should also receive ample power-play time, and given the quality of his potential linemates, DeBrusk could push to reach or exceed the 50-point mark for the second time in his career.

Arturs Silovs - Quiets Oilers in preseason finale Silovs stopped 28 of 29 shots in Friday's 4-1 preseason win over the Oilers.
Impact Silovs limited the damage to an Evan Bouchard goal in the second period. Over three preseason games, Silovs has gone 2-1-0 with six goals allowed on 72 shots. The 23-year-old netminder is likely to open the season in a timeshare with Kevin Lankinen in Vancouver's crease. Silovs will need to play well to keep his spot once Thatcher Demko (knee) is cleared to play -- Silovs is waivers-exempt and can easily be shuttled to AHL Abbotsford if he doesn't give the Canucks a chance to compete in his starts.
