Arshdeep Bains - Recalled from minors
Bains was recalled from AHL Abbotsford on Thursday.
Impact
The Canucks have only 12 healthy forwards as Pius Suter missed Wednesday's game against Calgary with an upper-body injury. Bains saw action in eight NHL games last season -- his first in the NHL -- but he was unable to hit the scoresheet.

Aatu Raty - Earns assist in season debut
Raty logged an assist in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Raty made the NHL roster out of training camp and got to play right away due to Pius Suter's (upper body) absence. Raty didn't make an NHL appearance last year, but he was excellent with 52 points in 72 regular-season outings for AHL Abbotsford. The Finnish forward, acquired from the Islanders in the Bo Horvat deal in January of 2023, may not be a full-time NHL option this year. Even if he does stick around with the big club, he'll likely be limited to bottom-six minutes.

Nils Hoglander - Deals assist in overtime loss
Hoglander recorded an assist and three shots on goal in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Hoglander began the game on the third line, but his 15:04 of ice time surpassed the totals for listed top-six wingers Danton Heinen (14:00) and Daniel Sprong (13:07). After finding consistency in 2023-24 with 36 points in 80 regular-season appearances, Hoglander should be a full-time NHLer this year. He's an option to move into a top-six role should head coach Rick Tocchet want to shuffle his lines, and Hoglander should also be a regular on the second power-play unit.

Filip Hronek - Pockets power-play helper
Hronek logged a power-play assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Hronek set up Daniel Sprong for the opening goal at 9:40 of the first period. The 26-year-old Hronek had a career year with 48 points (11 on the power play) and a plus-33 rating in 81 regular-season appearances last season, which earned him an eight-year contract in June. While he doesn't have the offensive upside of his defense partner Quinn Hughes, Hronek offers decent category coverage for fantasy and enough offense to be rostered in standard formats thanks to his spot on the second power-play unit.

Danton Heinen - Nabs helper in team debut
Heinen produced a power-play assist and two PIM in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Heinen helped out on a Daniel Sprong tally in the first period. The 29-year-old Heinen was listed on the Canucks' top line, but he saw just 14:00 of ice time in this contest. The winger signed a two-year deal with the Canucks after posting 36 points in 74 regular-season games with the Bruins last year, his most productive campaign in six years. While he has a good assignment to start 2024-25, he could slip into a middle-six role if his offense gets cold at any stage of the season.

Jake DeBrusk - Manages power-play assist
DeBrusk recorded a power-play assist and two shots on goal in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
DeBrusk set up a Brock Boeser tally at 11:48 of the first period. It's a modestly positive start to DeBrusk's tenure in Vancouver after he signed a seven-year contract in July. The 27-year-old winger had 40 points in 80 regular-season games with the Bruins last year, but his upside is higher after he logged 27 goals and 50 points the year before. DeBrusk will be a top-six fixture for the Canucks, and in addition to decent offense, he's expected to be a steady source of shots on goal and hits.

Elias Pettersson - Offers power-play helper
Pettersson notched a power-play assist in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Pettersson helped out on the first of Brock Boeser's two goals in the game. Last season, Pettersson earned 31 of his 89 points on the power play, so it figures to remain a large part of his production in 2024-25. The Swedish center added 125 hits, 68 blocked shots and 207 shots on net in 2023-24, with the added physical play helping to offset some of his step back on offense from a 102-point campaign in 2022-23.

ROTOWIRE
Quinn Hughes - Opens season with two helpers
Hughes logged two assists, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Hughes helped out on a Brock Boeser tally just after a power play expired in the first period. In the third, a Hughes block sprung J.T. Miller for the game-tying goal. The 24-year-old Hughes already has a multi-point effort to his name in 2024-25 after recording 27 such games en route to a career-best 92-point output last season. The Florida native is one of the most gifted blueliners in the league and should be well worth the early-round pick fantasy managers needed to acquire his services this year.

ROTOWIRE
Daniel Sprong - Tallies on power play
Sprong scored a power-play goal on two shots in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Sprong had the Canucks' first goal of the season as the second power-play unit cashed in midway through the first period. The 27-year-old winger began the game on a line with Elias Pettersson, but Sprong ended up with just 13:07 of ice time, third-lowest among Vancouver skaters. He's developed a reputation as a power-play specialist over the last two seasons, earning 26 of his 89 points in that span with the man advantage. As such, it wouldn't be a surprise for Sprong to ultimately end up in a bottom-six role, though that shouldn't hurt his fantasy value in formats that heavily reward offense.

ROTOWIRE
Conor Garland - Deposits goal
Garland scored a goal on two shots in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Garland's goal put the Canucks ahead 3-0 at 12:16 of the first period. The winger began the game on the third line, but he ranked fifth among Canucks forwards with 17:05 of ice time. The 28-year-old produced 20 goals, 27 assists and 200 shots on net over 82 regular-season appearances in 2023-24, and if he can improve on his power-play production from last year (five points), he could challenge for his second 50-point season.

ROTOWIRE
Brock Boeser - Scores twice in overtime loss
Boeser scored two goals, including one on the power play, in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Boeser tallied twice in the first period, but fell short of replicating the four-goal game he produced to begin 2023-24. It was still a fantastic effort for the 27-year-old winger, who carries a heavy regression risk after shooting 19.6 percent last year. Boeser will have every chance to succeed in 2024-25, logging top-six minutes and power-play time with the first unit, but it wouldn't be surprising for him to fall short of achieving back-to-back 40-goal seasons.

ROTOWIRE
J.T. Miller - Does it all in 800th career game
Miller scored a goal on three shots, logged an assist, doled out three hits and added five PIM in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Miller had a Gordie Howe hat trick in the contest, picking up the assist and a fighting major late in the first period. The goal to complete it came with 1:37 left in regulation after the Flames failed to finish a chance at an empty net. It was a memorable 800th career game for Miller, who has emerged as one of the best all-around producers in fantasy. In a career year in 2023-24, the 31-year-old racked up 37 goals, 103 points, 194 shots on net, 217 hits, 61 blocked shots and a plus-32 rating over 81 regular-season appearances.

ROTOWIRE
Arturs Silovs - Squanders lead in opener
Silovs allowed six goals on 26 shots in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Impact
Silovs was spotted a 4-1 lead after the first period, but the Flames showed resilience to get back into the game, and the Latvian goalie couldn't match it. The 23-year-old received the first nod in goal over Kevin Lankinen, but it's expected the Canucks will utilize both netminders regularly until Thatcher Demko (knee) can play. Silovs is essentially in an extended audition for the backup role, though he'll need to put together a better performance than he did in this contest to avoid a demotion to AHL Abbotsford.
