Signs with Miami
Sanu signed a contract with the Dolphins on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact
Sanu turns 33 in August and hasn't reached 200 yards in a season since 2019. He was a functional third receiver for the 49ers before dealing with a knee injury last season, but he'll likely be lower on the depth chart in Miami so long as Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson stay healthy.

Secondary, O-line key needs for 49ers this offseason

Inactive Sunday
Sanu (coach's decision) is listed as inactive for Sunday's NFC Championship at the Rams, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Only four days removed from the 49ers activating him from injured reserve, Sanu will miss his 12th game in a row. It's unclear if his previously injured knee is to blame, but the team's receiving corps is mostly healthy, so he'll remain in street clothes Sunday. Behind San Francisco's top duo of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Trent Sherfield and Travis Benjamin are the other wideouts available to the offense.

Avoids injury report
Sanu (knee) wasn't listed on the 49ers' injury report Wednesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Sidelined since Week 9 due to a knee sprain, Sanu was activated from injured reserve Wednesday and avoided the injury report entirely following his first official practice since being activated. While Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk occupy the top two spots on the team's depth chart at wide receiver, Sanu will contend with Jauan Jennings for any snaps that linger at the position in Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams. In eight appearances this season, Sanu recorded 15 catches (on 24 targets) for 177 yards and no touchdowns.

Activated from IR
The 49ers activated Sanu (knee) from injured reserve Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact
Sanu reached the end of his 21-day window for the 49ers to either activate him from IR or rule him out for the rest of the season. It's unclear if he'll be available for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Rams, and it's also uncertain what his role would be if he plays, given that Jauan Jennings has provided solid work as the No. 3 receiver. Sanu caught 15 of 24 targets for 177 yards in eight regular-season games, with his most recent appearance coming Week 9.

Still on IR
Sanu (knee) being activated from IR wasn't among the transactions made by the 49ers in advance of Saturday night's playoff game against the Packers.
Impact
Until Sanu is activated, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Trent Sherfield, Travis Benjamin and River Cracraft profile as the 49ers' available wide receiver options.

Not activated for Sunday
Sanu (knee) being activated from injured reserve wasn't among the transactions made by the 49ers ahead of Sunday's wild-card game at Dallas.
Impact
Sanu thus won't be eligible to return to the active roster until the divisional round, at the earliest, but the 49ers first will need to secure a victory in their playoff opener. The team opened his practice window Jan. 5, so there's plenty of time for the 10th-year pro to prove his knee is healthy. With Sanu still sidelined, though, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Trent Sherfield, Travis Benjamin and perhaps River Cracraft will serve as San Francisco's options at wide receiver Sunday.

Won't play Week 18
Sanu (knee) wasn't among the players added to San Francisco's roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Rams, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News repor...
Impact
San Francisco first designated Sanu for return from injured reserve Wednesday, so the team will have the opportunity activate him at some point in the next two and a half weeks, if the 49ers remain alive in the playoffs at that point. Before spraining his knee Week 9 against the Cardinals and landing on IR, Sanu appeared in eight games and recorded 15 receptions for 177 yards on 24 targets.

Practice window opens
The 49ers designated Sanu (knee) for return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Impact
Sanu has missed eight games in a row due to a sprained knee sustained Week 9 against the Cardinals. With his practice window now open, he'll have a trio of chances this week to prove his health ahead of Sunday's season finale at the Rams. Even if he's activated for Week 18, Sanu would be competing with Jauan Jennings and Trent Sherfield for snaps and targets behind the 49ers' top two wide receivers, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

Goes on IR
The 49ers placed Sanu (knee) on injured reserve Monday.
Impact
San Francisco had already ruled Sanu out in advance of Monday's game against the Rams, and the 49ers evidently didn't have much confidence he would make a full recovery from a sprained knee within the next two weeks either. With Sanu now officially out until at least Week 13, Trent Sherfield and Jauan Jennings are likely the leading candidates to vie for the No. 3 wideout job behind starters Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

Ruled out Monday
Sanu (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Rams, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Coach Kyle Shanahan said this week that Sanu is expected to miss time with a knee sprain, so it's not entirely surprising to see him unavailable Monday. Trent Sherfield and Jauan Jennings could see a slight uptick in playing time.

Dealing with knee sprain
Sanu is expected to miss some time with a knee sprain, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Per coach Kyle Shanahan, the wideout is slated to be out for a while, which suggests that Sanu is on track to miss next Monday's game against the Rams, at a minimum. If Sanu indeed is unable to suit up Week 10, added snaps behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk would be available for Trent Sherfield and Jauan Jennings.

One catch in loss
Sanu was on the field for 33 offensive snaps (56 percent), finishing with one catch (three targets) for five yards in Sunday's 31-17 loss to Arizona.
Impact
Sanu was coming off his best receiving game of the season (three receptions for 59 yards), but he fell back down the pecking order with the return of George Kittle and the late emergence of Brandon Aiyuk. The veteran wideout appeared to hyperextend his knee on a failed connection in the second quarter, but he was able to stay in and finish the contest. Assuming there are no lingering effects, Sanu will resume his role as the fourth or fifth receiving option for the 49ers when they take on the Rams next Monday.

59 yards in win
Sanu caught three of four targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 33-22 win over Chicago.
Impact
Sanu finished third in wide receiver offensive snaps as expected (45 percent), but he actually finished (a distant) second in receiving yards amongst all San Francisco receiving options. It was the veteran's highest receiving yardage total on the season, and he has yet to find the end zone through seven contests. Sanu doesn't bring much fantasy appeal heading into a Week 9 matchup with the Cardinals.
