Trey Sermon - Re-signs with Indy
The Colts re-signed Sermon on Thursday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
Impact
In 14 games for the Colts during the 2023 regular season, Sermon rushed 35 times (including 17 carries in Week 15) for 160 yards to go along with three catches for 13 yards. With Zack Moss now with the Bengals, Sermon will have a chance to carve out a complementary role behind starter Jonathan Taylor in 2024, but chances are Indianapolis will add further backfield depth via free agency or the draft.

Michael Pittman Jr. - Inking three-year extension
Pittman has agreed to a three-year deal to remain with the Colts, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact
The team had previously placed its franchise tag on Pittman, but evidently since then the two sides have been working toward a long-term deal. Per Rapoport, the wideout's looming new contract can reach up to $71.5 million and includes $46 million guaranteed. The 26 year-old is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he posted a career-high 109/1,152/4 receiving line on 156 targets in 16 games. With Pittman staying in the fold in 2024 and beyond, the Colts have secured valuable stability at the wide receiver position, a context that will no doubt benefit the development of young franchise QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder).

Jelani Woods - Appears healthy after missed season
Woods (hamstring) looks healthy in a recent workout video he posted, according to James Boyd of The Athletic.
Impact
The 2022 third-round pick had a promising rookie season with 25 catches for 312 yards and three touchdowns on 40 targets while splitting TE snaps with Mo Alie-Cox and Kylen Granson. There was some thought Woods would take on a larger role in second pro season, but then he injured his left hamstring in training camp and didn't get it right until the middle of the season, at which point his right hamstring started to bother him and kept him on injured reserve for the rest of the season. Woods is one of the tallest tight ends in the league (6-7) and ran a 4.61-second 40-yard dash at 259 pounds at the 2022 NFL Combine.

Braden Smith - Recovering from knee surgery
Smith underwent knee surgery following the 2023 season, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Impact
Smith has played a full 16- or 17-game schedule in just one of his six pro seasons and is coming off of a 2023 campaign that saw him miss seven contests to knee issues. The Colts' right tackle has two years left on his four-year, $70 million deal and is set to collect over $11.6 million in salary next season.

Michael Pittman Jr. - Not going anywhere, per Colts
General manager Chris Ballard said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that Pittman will be on Indianapolis' roster Week 1 of the 2024 season, whether via contract extension or t...
Impact
Pittman is approaching free agency for the first time in his NFL career, but it sounds like the Colts don't plan to allow him a true chance to explore the open market. Indianapolis has until March 5's deadline to decide whether to place the franchise tag on Pittman, which would provide him with a one-year $21.8 million salary for 2024, but it sounds like the team would prefer a long-term extension. The Colts haven't actually used the franchise tag since 2013, and Pittman himself has said he'd prefer a multi-year contract, per Stephen Holder of ESPN. "I do not want to play out a tag," Pittman said, "but you can use that to work towards a long-term deal as well."
