Impact After spending just one season in Arizona, the Cardinals decided to secure Froholdt for the next two years with a contract extension. Froholdt was the Cardinals' top center in 2023, starting all 17 of the team's regular-season contests, and it now appears that he'll remain Arizona's top choice at center for the immediate future.

Impact Demercado returned from a shoulder injury that held him out of last week's exhibition tilt. The sophomore tailback entered the game in the second quarter behind rookie Trey Benson (9-43-0), but it could have been the coaching staff easing Demercado off the shelf as opposed to a demotion from his projected No. 2 role behind James Conner. Next week's preseason finale should be telling based on how the backup RBs are deployed.

Impact Tune started under center in place of Kyler Murray (coach's decision) and produced strong results for the second week in a row. The sophomore backup wound up scoring his team's only touchdown with his legs before turning the keys over to fellow backup Desmond Ritter in the second half. Tune outperformed the latter for the second week running, despite flipping roles (and strength of defenses) on both occasions. Perhaps Tune has made a case to leap the slightly more experienced Ritter in the competition for the No. 2 role in Arizona.

Impact The third-round pick started at running back for the second week in a row as veteran starter James Conner continues to sit along with quarterback Kyler Murray during exhibition play. Benson fared much better in his second go around as temporary lead back after gaining just 21 yards on eight carries last week. It is worth noting that the rookie remained ahead of Emari Demercado (shoulder) on Saturday after the latter returned from a minor injury. Perhaps Benson has a shot to elevate himself into the No. 2 role over the incumbent option based on how the players were deployed while both active.

Impact Harrison was held out of the Cardinals' second preseason tilt after receiving no targets in one series with the starters in last week's exhibition. Fans and fantasy managers alike may have to wait until the start of the regular season if Arizona's coaching staff continues to handle its new talent with kid gloves in games of no consequence. Harrison will be healthy and ready to roll come Week 1, providing massive fantasy upside as Kyler Murray's top target.

Impact Coach Jonathan Gannon said two weeks ago that Murray won't play at all this preseason. The Cardinals gave some of their younger starters playing time in the preseason opener, including a brief appearance by WR Marvin Harrison, but they might have a different plan for Saturday night.

It would help Carter's case to impress in the preseason, with Saturday's exhibition game against the Colts representing his next chance to do so.

Impact This comes as no surprise considering Conner has started all 26 regular-season games in which he's been available for Arizona the last two seasons. He's also coming off a career-high 1,040 rushing yards while tallying 27 catches for 165 yards and nine total touchdowns in 13 appearances during the 2023 campaign. The team bolstered its backfield in the offseason with the selection of Trey Benson in the third round of the draft, and holdovers Emari Demercado and Michael Carter had brief moments of output last season. As long as Conner stays healthy, though, the 29-year-old should remain the top option at running back for the Cards in 2024.

Impact Oftentimes, NFL depth charts in August are merely guesses by team media relations staffs as to where players stand, but in the case of McBride there's little question regarding his status in the Cardinals offense. Not only is he Arizona's top tight end, he'll be among the top targets for QB Kyler Murray in 2024 alongside first-round rookie WR Marvin Harrison, second-year WR Michael Wilson and RB James Conner. In the eight games in which Murray was under center last season, McBride, a 2022 second-rounder, posted two 100-yard efforts en route to a 53-538-2 line on 66 targets. Such numbers extrapolated across a 17-game slate would place McBride in elite company at his position league-wide for fantasy purposes.

Impact Demercado missed the last week of practice and the Cardinals' first preseason game this past Saturday against the Saints, as he was seen wearing a brace on his right shoulder after last Wednesday's session. Now that he's back in the fold, he'll have a few days to ramp up ahead of Saturday's exhibition at Indianapolis, at which point it'll be interesting to see who among him and rookie third-round pick Trey Benson gets the first RB touches, assuming Demercado is able to suit up. Prior to his injury, Demercado was mixing in with Arizona's first-team offense, spelling starter James Conner in the process, so the former presumably would get initial backfield reps if he's cleared to play and Conner sits out again.
