Craig Sword - Inks deal with Washington
The Wizards signed Sword to a training camp deal Wednesday.
Impact
Sword played three games for the Wizards last season and averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 steals in 6.3 minutes. The 28-year-old guard also played 14 games for the Capital City Go-Go of the G League in the 2021-22 season. Sword's signing coincides with the team waiving Makur Maker.

Deni Avdija - Limited participant Wednesday
Avdija (groin) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session, Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Impact
Avdija has already been deemed questionable for Friday's preseason finale, but it was encouraging that he was able to participate in full-contact 3-on-3 drills Wednesday. The 21-year-old has been dealing with a left groin strain since late September, so it's possible that he's eased back into action once he's cleared to play in games.

Bradley Beal - Logs full practice Wednesday
Beal (illness) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Impact
Beal was briefly in the league's health and safety protocols, but he was removed after his illness was determined to be non-COVID related. He remained out for Monday's preseason contest due to the illness, but it appears he's moved past the issue and should be full-go moving forward. Given his full participation at practice Wednesday, it seems likely he'll get some run in during Friday's preseason finale against the Knicks to work on conditioning ahead of the regular season.

Kristaps Porzingis - Limited in practice Wednesday
Porzingis (ankle) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice session, Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Impact
Porzingis sustained an ankle injury during Monday's preseason game against Charlotte and was unable to practice Tuesday, but he was back in action a day later. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Friday's preseason finale against the Knicks, but his presence at practice Wednesday bodes well for his status for the Wizards' regular-season opener against the Pacers on Oct. 19.

Corey Kispert - Rehab going well
Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. said Tuesday that Kispert's (ankle) recovery is going well and appears to be ahead of schedule, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Kispert was originally expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after spraining his ankle Oct. 2. While it is not guaranteed that he will beat his original timeline, it appears that the shorter end of his recovery timeline is likely. When Kispert does return, he will likely be competing with Deni Avdija and Will Barton for minutes in the forward rotation.

Deni Avdija - Questionable for preseason finale
Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. said that Avdija (groin) may progress to 5-on-5 activities Wednesday, but he is still questionable for Friday's preseason game versus the Knicks, Chase...
Impact
Avdija has yet to play in the preseason due to a groin injury he suffered while playing for the Israeli national team over the summer. However, Avdija is ramping up to a return, and even if he does not play Friday, he could still be ready to return for the regular season.

Kristaps Porzingis - Walking sans limp Tuesday
Porzingis (ankle) isn't participating in practice Tuesday but has no noticeable limp while walking, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Porzingis' limp-free movement walking around supports the previous report that his injury is believed to be minor. It wouldn't be surprising if he sits out Friday's preseason finale as a precaution ahead of the opener, but his status will be worth monitoring in the coming days and week.

Will Barton - Steady production Monday
Barton closed with 10 points (4-10 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 0-1 FT), six assists, one rebound, one steal and one block in 25 minutes during Monday's 116-107 preseason victory over the Hornets.
Impact
Barton was far from outstanding in the win, yet he was still able to chip in across the board. Despite the change in scenery, Barton should be able to replicate his numbers from last season, placing him firmly in the discussion as a late-round fantasy asset with a relatively safe floor.

Rui Hachimura - Scores 15 points in win Monday
Hachimura totaled 15 points (6-12 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT) and three rebounds in 25 minutes during Monday's win over Charlotte.
Impact
Hachimura came off the bench in the victory, a role he is likely to maintain, at least to begin the season. While he can be a steady source of points, he offers very little in across-the-board production. Until he can add some juice to his game, he should be considered a final-round option for anyone needing points.

Monte Morris - Fails to score Monday
Morris ended with zero points (0-8 FG, 0-3 3Pt), seven assists, two rebounds and one steal in 21 minutes during Monday's preseason win over the Hornets.
Impact
Morris delivered a donut in the win, highlighting how volatile his value could be this season. While he is slated to be the starting point guard, he could be the third or fourth option on offense. That would leave assists and steals as his primary sources of value, making him a viable, yet unsexy, late-round target.

Porzingis was ruled out for the remainder of Monday's preseason game due to an ankle injury.
Impact
Porzingis exited without return after suffering an ankle injury during the second quarter of Monday's exhibition matchup against the Hornets. The exact extent of the injury is still unknown. The Wizards open their regular season Oct. 19 against the Pacers.

Deni Avdija - Continuing ramp-up process
Avdija (groin), who is out for Monday's preseason game against the Hornets, participated in 3-on-3 activities Sunday and Monday, Ava Wallace of The Washington Post reports.
Impact
Avdija is missing a third consecutive game due to a left groin strain, and Friday's exhibition game against the Knicks marks his final chance to suit up prior to the start of the regular season. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available against New York, but he seems to be trending in the right direction with just over a week remaining until the regular season.

Bradley Beal - Out of protocols, won't play Monday
Beal cleared the league's health and safety protocols but will remain out for Monday's preseason game against the Hornets due to a non-COVID illness.
Impact
The specifics of the situation remains unclear, but it appears like this is an encouraging update for the superstar shooting guard. He'll have one more opportunity to play during the preseason -- Friday against the Knicks -- before the Wizards open the regular season against the Pacers on Oct. 19.
