Joey Bart - Homers in loss Bart went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Cubs.
Impact Bart got Pittsburgh on the board in the first inning with a two-out, 419-foot blast off Matthew Boyd, his third homer of the year and his first in 19 games. Bart had gone just 1-for-14 in seven contests coming into Wednesday. Overall, he's batting .240 with a .671 OPS, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored across 317 plate appearances this season.

However, the right-hander managed to settle in and blank Chicago over his final four frames, allowing just one additional hit. The four runs mark the most given up by Oviedo through seven starts this season. His ERA sits at 3.52 with a 1.24 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB across 30.2 innings.

Cam Sanders - Sent back to Triple-A The Pirates optioned Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact Sanders was up with the Pirates for just three days following his call-up from Triple-A Indianapolis and made his lone appearance Monday, when he gave up a run in 1.2 innings out of the bullpen in Pittsburgh's 4-0 loss to the Cubs. He'll give up his spot on the 28-man active roster to right-hander Yohan Ramirez (personal), who was reinstated from the paternity list.

Impact Ramirez will rejoin the Pirates after he spent the maximum three days away from the team while welcoming a new child. Pittsburgh optioned right-hander Cam Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis to clear a spot in the bullpen and on the 28-man active roster for Ramirez.

Impact Cruz has now exited the starting nine in four of the Pirates' last seven games, though three of his absences have come with left-handed pitchers on the bump for the opposition. Impact Flores was summoned from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday and will make his major-league debut Wednesday. The Pirates started Henry Davis at catcher Tuesday and are going with Joey Bart at catcher Wednesday, so it doesn't appear they intend to give Flores extended run behind the plate down the stretch, but he will get his feet wet at first base.

Paul Skenes - Stumbles against Cubbies Skenes (10-10) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks over 3.2 innings as the Pirates were downed 4-1 by the Cubs. He struck out six.
Impact The young right-hander hurt his Cy Young case with his shortest outing of the season, one that got off to an ominous start when Michael Busch led off the game with a solo homer. Despite the stumble, Skenes still leads the NL in strikeouts (209) and ERA (2.03) and sits third in innings with 181.2, and his 0.96 WHIP is second only to the Padres' Nick Pivetta (0.95). Skenes lines up to make one more start before the end of the season, on the road in Cincinnati next week.
