Impact Andriese came on in the fifth inning and retired the final two batters of the frame, but a Jose Marmolejos solo homer in the following inning was enough to saddle the right-hander with a loss in the low-scoring affair. Andriese had aspirations of starting to begin the season but has struggled throughout the campaign, posting a 6.41 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 19.2 innings.

Impact Andriese piggybacked Julio Teheran, who lasted just 2.2 innings as he continues to build up his workload. The right-hander now owns a 4.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB through 10.1 innings this season. According to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, manager Joe Maddon said he really likes Andriese in the bullpen, so it's possible he shifts to a long-relief role moving forward.

It was Andriese's first start of the year -- he previously tossed 5.2 scoreless innings against the Athletics in relief of Shohei Ohtani on July 26. The bad outing inflated Andriese's ERA to 4.91 in 7.1 innings this season. He's expected to face the Rangers on the road next Friday in his next start.

Impact Andriese was needed in a long-relief role Sunday, as Ohtani failed to record an out in the first inning. Andriese performed admirably on short notice, allowing the Angels to pull within a run while he was on the mound. The 30-year-old right-hander will all but certainly not make his scheduled start Tuesday versus the Mariners -- it remains to be seen when he'll start his first game of the year.

Impact Andriese has utilized both the cutter and the two-seamer in the past, most notably early in his career as a starter with Tampa Bay. The right-hander was used exclusively in relief with Arizona last season and consequently relied almost entirely on his four-seamer (49.6 percent usage) and changeup (37.0 percent usage). Andriese has posted a 4.64 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 202:63 K:BB over 236.2 innings in 49 career starts.
