Impact Andriese had been lining up for a possible starting role prior to the suspension of spring training, but the return to health of both Shohei Ohtani and Griffin Canning (elbow) seemingly put a damper on those hopes. However, the uncertain nature of the 2020 campaign magnifies the need for teams to have extra flexibility among their pitching staffs, and Andriese is a logical candidate for an open starting spot given his history as a starter in the majors. As it stands, the Angels are currently unsure when presumed starter Julio Teheran, who has yet to report to camp for undisclosed reasons, will be ready to resume baseball activities or whether he will be available to pitch at the start of the season.
