Signs MiLB deal with Diamondbacks Keuchel signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Impact Keuchel was designated for assignment and ultimately released by the White Sox in late May, but he'll now attempt to generate production within the Diamondbacks' minor-league system. The southpaw will report to Triple-A Reno after he posted a career-worst 7.88 ERA and 2.16 WHIP in 32 innings over eight starts with the White Sox to begin the season. Keuchel's agreement with the Diamondbacks reunites him with pitching coach Brent Strom, whom he worked with for five years in Houston.

Impact Keuchel signed a three-year, $55.5 million contract with Chicago prior to the 2020 season, and while he did give the team a 1.99 ERA in the first year of his deal, it's become apparent over the last two seasons that he just doesn't have it anymore. A 5.28 ERA last year was bad enough, but that figure ballooned to 7.88 through eight starts this season as he walked as many batters as he struck out. His formerly elite groundball rate also dipped to a merely good 50.8 percent, a career low. As a 34-year-old with that sort of recent track record and a fastball that averages 88.2 mph, he's unlikely to generate much interest on the open market and is all but guaranteed not to get claimed while a team still has to take on the entirety of his remaining contract.

Pummeled for six runs Thursday Keuchel (2-5) took the loss against Boston on Thursday, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over two innings.

Impact Keuchel's outing got off to an ominous beginning when Enrique Hernandez led off the game with a home run, and the veteran hurler went on to allow two more runs in the frame. He then served up a three-run shot to Trevor Story in the second inning and didn't make it back out to the mound for the third. Blowups like these have been a theme for Keuchel this season -- he has now given up six or more runs in three of his eight starts. He's had some decent outings as well, but it's tough to invest fantasy stock in a pitcher who has a 7.88 ERA on the season, especially when that is accompanied by an ugly 20:20 K:BB.

He surrendered five runs in the second frame, including a DJ LeMahieu grand slam with two outs. He later gave up another run in the next inning. The left-hander failed to register a strikeout for the second time this year and the tough outing put an end to a strong stretch for the 34-year-old. Over his prior four starts, he had posted a 2.70 ERA over 20 innings. Keuchel has had a couple blowups this year, including Saturday, and he now has a 6.60 ERA and 2.00 WHIP with 16 punchouts over 30 innings this season.
