2024 MLB odds: Josh Hader, Emmanuel Clase favorites to lead in saves
Joc Pederson - Back in lineup Thursday Pederson (personal) will start in left field and bat fifth in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Giants.
Impact Pederson was scratched from the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers after he left the team to attend to a personal matter, but he missed just a couple of days before returning to camp. Though he'll be drawing the start in left field Thursday, Pederson is expected to primarily serve as a designated hitter versus right-handed pitching once the regular season gets underway.

Impact The 23-year-old was scratched from Monday's spring lineup due to wrist soreness, and he was diagnosed with inflammation after receiving medical imaging. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue, so Thomas could return to game action shortly after he resumes baseball activities.

Ryne Nelson - Answers Henry in rotation bid Nelson allowed two hits and struck out five over two scoreless innings in Saturday's spring start against the Rockies.
Impact Nelson's 33-pitch performance was the talk of the post-game discussion. The right-hander threw mostly fastballs and sliders and induced eight swing-and-misses. "The velocity looked like it was spiking," manager Torey Lovullo told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. "He started mixing in a really quality secondary pitch with that slider, I know that was something I've been emphasizing. I know he's been working hard on it and he got a ton of swing-and-miss." It was an impressive showing for Nelson, who had a 15.5 strikeout percentage (sixth percentile per Statcast) and 6.0 K/9 in 2023. It was also a timely response after Tommy Henry's impressive Cactus League debut Friday. Nelson and Henry are seen as the main competitors for the final spot in the rotation.

Impact Garlick logged five hits in just 28 big-league at-bats with Minnesota last season, but he slashed .242/.346/.450 with 65 RBI across 355 plate appearances in Triple-A.
