Ketel Marte - Lands on IL with sprained ankle The Diamondbacks placed Marte on the 10-day injured list Monday with a sprained left ankle.
Impact Marte initially injured the ankle more than a week ago and has been in and out of the lineup since then. He aggravated the injury during a pinch-hit appearance Sunday versus the Rays and the Diamondbacks have finally decided to make a roster move with the 30-year-old. Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander should fill in at second base while Marte is sidelined.

Impact Though Vieira remains a member of Arizona's organization after clearing waivers earlier this month, he has yet to pitch for Reno since being cast off the 40-man roster. Reno placed him on its restricted list Aug. 9 for unspecified reasons.

Impact Jacques ended up sticking around in the Arizona organization after he cleared waivers upon being designated for assignment July 26. Since reporting back to Reno on Aug. 3, Jacques has given up five runs (three earned) while striking out seven across five innings over five relief outings.

Michael Pérez - Thriving with new organization Perez, who signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on July 31, is slashing .500/.556/.733 with five-extra base hits through his first eight games with Triple-A Reno.
Impact Arizona brought Perez aboard in late July with the expectation that he would provide catching depth to the upper levels of the minors, but a promotion to the big leagues isn't out of the question while the Diamondbacks' top backstop, Gabriel Moreno (adductor) remains on the injured list without a definitive return date. For now, the Diamondbacks have been leaning on prospect Adrian Del Castillo as their new No. 1 catcher and have gotten strong results from him thus far, but if he or backup Jose Herrera were to fall victim to an injury, Perez or Andrew Knizner could be next in line for a call-up.

Impact Arizona previously optioned Hughes to Triple-A on June 29, only to move him off the 40-man roster entirely just over a month later. Since being sent back to Reno in late June, Hughes has accrued a 1.26 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB over 14.1 innings.

Impact Diaz was placed on Reno's IL on Aug. 7 with a blister on his right hand but missed just over a week of action before making his return. The 24-year-old righty acquitted himself well in four starts with the big club earlier this season, but he could struggle to get another look with the Diamondbacks in 2024 if all of Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, Eduardo Rodriguez, Jordan Montgomery and Ryne Nelson are all able to stay healthy down the stretch.

Humberto Castellanos - Outrighted to Triple-A The Diamondbacks outrighted Castellanos to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Impact As expected, Castellanos cleared waivers after Arizona designated him for assignment Aug. 11. Since he had been previously outrighted, Castellanos could have elected free agency, but he'll instead stick around in the organization with the hope of earning a call-up to Arizona later on this season. Castellanos worked out of the bullpen for his seven appearances with the big club earlier in 2024 but has been a regular member of the rotation at Reno, with whom he's compiled a 4.39 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 67.2 innings over 15 outings (14 starts).

Instead, manager Torey Lovullo rolled with Kevin Ginkel, who was the pitcher of record and allowed the Rays to tie the game. Martinez pitched the the next two frames, wriggling out of a bases-loaded jam in the 11th before ceding the winning run in the 12th. This was the second consecutive appearance in which Martinez was charged with a walk-off loss.

Impact Ginkel was the pitcher of record when Arizona took a 7-6 lead in the top half of the 10th inning -- the Diamondbacks scored six combined runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to force extra innings. Impact Del Castillo's second homer of the season was a clutch three-run shot that tied the game in the ninth, sending it into extras. The catcher was 0-for-4 going into that at-bat, rendering him in a 1-for-16 slump prior to the blast. Del Castillo began his big-league career on fire, going 7-for-12 with three extra-base hits and five RBI. With 24 homers in the minors prior to his call up, Del Castillo has the potential to provide intriguing pop from the catcher position while Gabriel Moreno remains sidelined for the Diamondbacks.

Impact Carroll's eighth-inning blast was his 13th of the season and pulled the Diamondbacks to within three. It was Carroll's fifth homer in 10 starts since August 7 to go along with a triple, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored, a stolen base and a .293 average over 41 at-bats. In what has been a down season for Carroll, he appears to be revving things back up with the stretch-run approaching.

Merrill Kelly - Tagged for six runs Kelly did not factor into the decision, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings Sunday against the Rays. He struck out four.
Impact Kelly struggled mightily in his second start since returning from a stint on the 60-day IL with a shoulder injury. Despite allowing five runs through five, Kelly was allowed to start the sixth. However, he walked both batters he faced in the inning, and he was pulled with one of those batters later coming around to score, saddling him with six earned runs allowed. On a promising note, Kelly was extended to 96 pitches, 11 more than he tossed in his last start indicating that he's not being governed by any restrictions. This marked his first outing this season in which he's allowed more than two runs, lifting his ERA from 2.43 to 3.63. His next opportunity to take the hill is scheduled to come next week when the Diamondbacks travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox.
